The River Raisin Institute will wrap up our 2026 Climate Literacy program (Shell Shocked! Turtles and Climate Change) with an engaging presentation from David A. Mifsud, owner of Herpetological Resource and Management (HRM). 

Learn about Michigan's native amphibians and reptiles and the conservation efforts underway to better understand and protect them. Drawing on more than three decades of field research, wildlife management, and ecological consulting, David will discuss the diversity of Michigan's herpetofauna, the habitats they depend upon, the challenges they face, and why their conservation is important to healthy ecosystems across the state. The presentation will highlight several of HRM's ongoing conservation initiatives. Participants will also learn about the Michigan Herp Atlas, a statewide community science program administered by HRM in partnership with the Michigan Department of Natural Resources.
